weight of crankset and cassette is disappointing. The shifter and braking system have barely any weight difference with Red
2018: Red eTap $1200 and compatible with 11 speed Shimano cranks and cassettes
2019: 12 speed Force $1500, Red eTap $2500 (plus 100 grams heavier than 2018 version), and they’re no longer compatible with 11 speed.

Cheaper? less expensive you mean.
It is not well sorted out. I had the Force etap installed by the local LBS in my 2018 Specialized Diverge and in one month of riding (500 miles or so), it dropped the chain twice gouging the frame of my bike. Second time that the chain dropped, even the chain catcher didn't help. Buyer beware unless you want to be the lab experiment for SRAM.
I was counting on the understanding that Sram would release a Force 11 speed eTap for many of us trying to shoestring into wireless electronic shifting, without giving up our chainrings , spiders and cassettes. The step into the 12 speed realm with has locked me out of mechanical to eTap conversion. Used eTap 11 speed prices have skyrocketed, and now the future replacements of worn or damaged 11 speed eTap will become a costly burden to a lot of cyclists.
All I can say is Sram we needed the 11 speed Force eTap components to arrive on the market @ $900 US (Mechanical brakes Disc/rim, shifters and pods, front and rear derailleurs).
Lovely. But still ridiculously expensive.
I do not subscribe to the idea that electronic or hydraulic shifting and 12×1 should cost an arm and a leg.

Cheap might be the biggest joke of the year. With all the features they removed Red comes in as a better option. We are at a price point where 1k USD prob wont be a turn off for most people.
Also the price jump from the old force the new AXS is just insane. And the fact you can pickup a 11 speed Red Etap cheaper then force just says it all. As well as the fact they launch upgrade kits with no backwards compatability so there is nothing to upgrade on, you need to get a crank set as well. Atm you cant even pickup a complete set from the retailers. You need to buy crank, cassette and chain seperately. Ontop of those 2.2k you already layed down.
